Thanks to many generous people on the various RVing forums, we had \u201csome\u201d idea of what was involved in getting ready to go \u201cfull time\u201d. \u00a0But it is still a daunting task!<\/p>\n

Well, we have the Trailer (Lucy) and we have the Truck (Linus), what else is there to prepare?<\/p>\n

FIRST \u2013 \u00a0<\/strong>Get the house ready to sell? \u00a0What do you mean we need to refinish the floor in the study \u2013 and paint the room \u2013 and fix that crack in the ceiling ? \u00a0Oh, and re-paint the kitchen \u2013 and the bedroom \u2013 and the hall? \u00a0And of course, do something about the old hardwood floors upstairs (carpet maybe?). \u00a0And, oh yes, \u201cde-clutter\u201d everything!<\/p>\n

Well, the house is on the market, and it looks pretty good \u2013 if I do say so myself!<\/p>\n

We are still getting rid of \u201cstuff\u201d. \u00a0The good news is that my son, Michael, is thinking about buying a house before too long \u2014 so when the house sells, he will get a great price on a house full of furniture!<\/p>\n

Next \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0While the trailer comes extremely well furnished, it is not really geared for full-time living \u2013 especially if you anticipate living \u201coff the grid\u201d a significant portion of the time. \u00a0It is our hope\/intent to avoid commercial campgrounds a significant part of the time \u2014 staying in more rustic and scenic locations on\u00a0Forest Service or Bureau of Land Management land. \u00a0However, those places do \u201cnot\u201d come with electrical connections or sewer hook-ups!<\/p>\n

No Black Tank \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0If you read our blog \u201cNew Beginnings\u201d, you already know that we gave one another a new Nature\u2019s Head Composting Toilet for our Holiday gift! \u00a0No more dumping or pumping the \u201cBlack Tank\u201d! \u00a0The liquids are separated from the solids, the solids are mixed with sphagnum peat moss which becomes humanure. \u00a0For the full story, you can learn \u00a0more at:<\/p>\n

We tested it for a month or so in Michael\u2019s old bedroom, and now have it set up & working in the RV. \u00a0\u2014 \u00a0More \u2026<\/a><\/p>\n

Electrical Independence \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0I have been working on designing & installing a solar electric system that will allow us to be totally electrically independent. \u00a0Again, I owe a huge debt of gratitude to the many folks on the various forums who have provided guidance & personal experience to assist in this planning. \u00a0We have the overall design in some pretty good detail, and have begun purchasing and installing components one section at a time. \u00a0We have the Inverter (3000 W capacity) to convert battery power (12 VDC) to normal 120 VAC so that we can run the TV, microwave, etc. \u00a0We have most of the wiring for the new system in place. \u00a0And we have replaced all of the halogen lights with cool, efficient LED lights that use about 1\/10 of the power! \u00a0(Isn\u2019t that exciting???) \u00a0Oh, and I\u2019ve even figured out a way to power the trailer using a regular extension cord for when we park in Barbara\u2019s driveway! \u00a0\u2014 \u00a0More \u2026<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
