Death Valley \u2013 Day 1<\/strong><\/p>\n

As we approached our visit to Death Valley National Park, our pre-conceived vision was of the20 Mule Team Wagons and Badwater Basin \u2013 the lowest point in North America at 282 feet BELOW sea level.\u00a0 Boy, were we underestimating this park!<\/p>\n

Here is what we expected to see\u2026 \u00a0(These two make a 360 degree panorama)<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what we actually saw\u2026<\/p>\n

From Dante’s View 5500 feet (and almost 30 degrees) above the low point of the Western Hemisphere:<\/p>\n

\"2<\/a> \"2\"2<\/a> \"2<\/a> \"2<\/a>\"2<\/a><\/p>\n

And the \u201cDesert Bloom\u201d is still happening\u2026<\/p>\n

\"2<\/a> \"2<\/a><\/p>\n

\"2<\/a>\u00a0\"2<\/a><\/p>\n

We drove\u00a0through the Artist’s Drive:<\/p>\n

\"4<\/a> \"4<\/a><\/p>\n

And we took a hike up Golden Canyon (2 3\/4 miles UP-hill going in!)<\/p>\n

\"3<\/a> \"3<\/a>\"3<\/a>\u00a0\"3<\/a>\"3<\/a><\/p>\n

We came home the long way around and the scenery just kept on coming\u2026<\/p>\n

Imagine living in a town with this as its backdrop\u2026<\/p>\n

We even saw wild horses running free\u2026<\/p>\n

\"7<\/a><\/p>\n

And a Nevada Cathouse\u2026<\/p>\n

\"8<\/a><\/p>\n

As we are beginning to understand, Death Valley National Park is HUGE! \u00a0In fact, it is the largest National Park in the lower 48 at 3.4 Million Acres — and 3.1 of that is designated wilderness. \u00a0The valley itself is 124 miles long and the scenery ranges from Bad Water Basin at MINUS 282 feet elevation to the snow-capped Telescope Peak at over 11,000 feet. \u00a0There are volcanic formations, sedimentary formations, mountains, canyons, sand dunes, and flat valley floor. \u00a0So very much to see! Stay tuned….<\/p>\n
