After nearly a week in the vicinity of Mount Rushmore, we headed west.<\/p>\n

Devils Tower National Monument<\/strong>\u00a0is is an amazing formation — and an iconic backdrop for the classic movie “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”.<\/p>\n

\"\"\"\"\u00a0\"\"<\/p>\n

One of the most emotionally moving experiences on this trip was our visit to\u00a0Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument.<\/strong>\u00a0 The interpretive staff provides a clear and well-balanced account of the events that lead up to the battle, description of the battle itself, and its aftermath.\u00a0 Walking on the grounds and contemplating the events generated a well-spring of melancholy.\u00a0 \u00a0Smoke from the fires in Idaho and western Montana obscured some of the long vistas:<\/p>\n

Then, on to Yellowstone & Grand Teton…<\/p>\n
