Some visitors at the Refuge commented that the Rookery at High Island was active and exciting. They sure were right! Great Egret, Snowy Egret, Roseate Spoonbill, Neotropic Cormorant, Double-Crested Cormorant….
Of course, there are ‘gators in the water — which discourages raccoons and others from stealing the eggs from the nests — and there are hundreds and hundreds of nests!
Some of the egret nests already have eggs in them!
Note the nest building material in his beak!
The Spoonbills seem to be courting.
