Black Butte Ranch & Crater Lake

The first stop after leaving Portland was to spend 5 days with the family at Black Butte Ranch (I know, we just spent nine months together, but this is Vacation!)  Judith’s brother Don and his companion Eve flew from Ohio to join with the family and Kajsa’s brother,

Beau, was with us as well.  There were good times, good food, and beautiful scenery…. And lots of Legos and Wingspan – plus “Pie-Face”.  (Thanks, Beau, I borrowed some of your great pictures!)

Our next stop was the High Desert Museum in Bend OR.  This included displays depicting the life of the Native Americans, the settlers, and wildlife of the region.

It was highlighted with a free-flying raptor show, the birds were ‘very’ close!

We had a wonderful day trip to Crater Lake National Park, which is about an hour from our campground.  As with the Grand Canyon and other huge places, it is hard to wrap your mind around the size:  It is six miles from one end of the lake to the other!  If you wonder where all the water comes from, average snowfall is 575 inches!  Notice the snow in June.

Note the small dot on the water toward the right side. That is an 18 ft. power boat!
