Feb in Texas

Sorry for the delay in posting our adventures — things got off to a slow start here.  We arrived at Anahuac NWR a few days before we were to start our February volunteer gig.  A couple days after we got set-up, we went for a bike ride on the refuge — as I dismounted I got my big feet tangled up, lost my balance and fell!  Pulled muscles in my upper calf and sprained my ankle! W didn’t miss any volunteer time, but we did get to check out the local emergency room, and my mobility was somewhat limited……

We did make it to Houston while Judith’s brother, Don, was visiting with Zac and David.  Great fun!  David is a ball of energy!  Don was there, but David was the star of the show …

While I was hobbling around, we also made a trip to Houston to purchase some new furniture …

The refuge is beautiful, and our surroundings are VERY pastoral…

The other volunteers here are great!  We gather every Friday evening for a potluck dinner — Italian, Mexican, Breakfast-for-Dinner, etc.  We often gather one or two evenings to just sit around a campfire and chat — and possibly listen to the geese overhead or the coyotes in the next field.

As I am feeling better (not ready for a 5-K race, but not limping around), we have finally begun to explore the refuge more.  (Oh, and I got a new camera lens, so please bear with me….)
